A toolkit for analyzing nonlinear economic dynamic models easily: MATLAB programs.
Author: Prof. Harald Uhlig, Ph.D.

Description | DynaMo in Four Steps| Troubleshooting

* DynaMo
DynaMo (version 1.0) is a menu driven Windows stand-alone application which allows you to solve and analyze selected standard dynamic stochastic general equilibrium models. You do not need any programming skills nor any installation of e.g. MATLAB. The basic DynaMo installation contains the neoclassical growth model as an example. Further dynamic models can be easily integrated. See below for a selection of models.

The application is a compiled version of Harald Uhlig's Toolkit files for MATLAB. However version 1.0 does not allow you to implement your own models. If you like to do so, please refer to the Toolkit webpage.

Analyzing selected Dynamic Models without MATLAB - DynaMo is the right application for you.

DynaMo in 4 Steps

Step 1: Download DynaMo.exe to your computer. Double-click on DynaMo.exe. The package self-extracts to C:\DynaMo.

Step 2: Lookup C:\DynaMo. Read the Readme.txt and have a look to Manual.pdf. Double-click on Setup.exe

Step 3: Start NeoClass.exe and enjoy playing with the example model.

Step 4: You do want more models? Simply download for example Hansen.exe to your computer and double-click on it. Lookup C:\DynaMo.

file date size description
DynaMo.exe 12.13.02 7.39 MB This is the core of DynaMo. You need to download this in order to run the application. Already included are the neoclassical growth model as an example and an extensive DynaMo manual. However, if you want to have a preview then click here.
BaxterKing.exe 12.13.02 256 KB A version of Baxter and King (1993), click here.
Calvo.exe 01.15.03 252 KB A New Keynesian monetary model with Calvo sticky prices. See lecture notes "Money: Theory and Policy" (Winter 2002/2003) for details, course page, lecture notes.
Hansen.exe 12.13.02 256 KB The Hansen (1985) benchmark real business cycle model (RBC). See lecture notes "Quantitative Macroeconomics and Numerical Methods I" (Winter 2002/2003) for details, course page, lecture notes.
NeoClass.exe 12.13.02 256 KB The standard neoclassical growth model. Already included in the DynaMo package as an example file. See the extended textbook-chapter-like version of Harald Uhlig's toolkit paper, click here.
Shopping.exe 12.13.02 272 KB A shopping time monetary model taken from Chapter 17 of Ljungqvist- Sargent (2000) "Recursive Macroeconomics". See lecture notes "Money: Theory and Policy" (Winter 2002/2003) for details, course page, lecture notes.
Taxes.exe 12.13.02 272 KB A real business cycle model with government policy. See lecture notes "Business Cycles and Growth Policy" (Winter 2002/2003) for details, course page, lecture notes (only available in german).

Troubleshooting:

1) If you get any of the following error messages:

"The dynamic link library MFC42.DLL could not be found"
-or-
"THE ORDINAL 6880 COULD NOT BE LOCATED IN THE DYNAMIC LINK LIBRARY MFC42.DLL"
-or-
"The file is linked to missing export MFC42.DLL:6880",

then the MFC42.DLL file is missing, damaged or, most likely, an incorrect old version (prior to 6.0).

In order to run DynaMo you must copy/overwrite MFC42.DLL (keep the old file if there is any) in the Windows system directory

For Windows 95/98/ME: c:\windows\system
For Windows NT/2000: c:\winnt\system32

with a newer version.

You can find an updated version of the file mfc42.dll after running the installation of DynaMo at c:\DynaMo\Files\Bin\Win32 or here . Finally, reboot your computer.

2) If some of the menus are cut off on the upper screen border, choose a screen resolution higher than 800x600.
